Description
Pet Parrots
We recommend using this light daily, but not longer than 1.5 to 2 hours per day. It has proven to improve feather condition and simulates a notable portion of natural sunlight. These lights are fairly intense, hence why we recommend a fairly short portion of the day be the exposure period. Generally a CFL or smaller T5 (<2 ft) will suffice for pet parrots. The time recommendation is based on the bulb being no more than 24” above the cage.Maximize your light by using a reflector kit!
Breeding Parrots, Finches, Canaries
Many breeders and keepers of cage birds have noted success by using these lights for 4 to 8 hours per day. The intensity helps to stimulate the natural response associated with a time of year when food is plentiful and therefore offspring can be supported. For most breeding situations and larger flight cages the longer (>2 ft) T5 bulbs fit the bill best. We recommend hanging the bulbs less than 24” above the cage or flight. The performance of the bulb declines after 9-12 months of use and should be changed at least once a year. The reflector combo is quite useful, helping direct the light more to one area.
*Knowing the needs of your species and mutation is important. Birds from deep in the rainforest and birds with red eyes tend to do better with shorter exposure.
Bird of Prey
Birds of Prey have proven to moult faster and develop high quality feathers when exposed to these lights during the moulting season. This gives the bird a competitive advantage because they can begin getting in flying condition weeks ahead of other birds. For optimal results use these lights between X - X hours per day during the moulting period. The bulbs should be hung 18” to 30” from the bird's perch. The larger 3 and 4 foot T5 bulbs are usually the most sensible choice, as they provide the most square footage of light output. The NanoTech reflector, included in the combo, is recommended to help focus light toward a desired area.
Pigeon and Dove
Whether you are breeding pouters or racing pigeons, ring-necked or emerald doves, the sunblaster bulbs have proven time and again to produce high quality feathers and encourage breeding. Most pigeons and doves benefit from 5 to 7 hours of exposure per day, but this may vary by species. For optimal results, use a 3 or 4 foot T5 bulb and hang it less than 3 feet above the most used perch. A T5HO Combo helps to control the way the light spreads, and can ensure more usability.
Chicken, Pheasant, and Ornamental Birds
Sunblaster bulbs can be used year round on these birds, however, in the late fall and over winter is the best time. Usually these birds are allowed to run free, so in Summer they get adequate light from the sun. As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, these bulbs become invaluable. For laying hens these lights promote a continuation of steady laying throughout the winter. For people working with pheasants and similar birds, these lights keep birds in good condition and more energetic than they would normally be. Come breeding season, you can see the benefits in the clutch sizes and fertility rates. 3 and 4 foot T5 bulbs produce the most light spread, and should be hung near the feed area. 4+ hours a day tends to be ideal.
